Angela V. Olinto



Dean Angela V. Olinto is the chief academic and executive officer for the Division of the Physical Sciences. Working with department chairs, directors of the research institutes, and senior administrators, she is responsible for securing the budgetary, administrative, and laboratory infrastructure needed to maintain the highest standards of excellence for research and graduate education.

Dean Olinto is also the Albert A. Michelson Distinguished Service Professor in the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics, the Enrico Fermi Institute, the Kavli Institute for Cosmological Physics, and the College.

Manager, PSD Computing


Steven manages the PSD Computing Office, which provides IT services to the faculty, staff and students in the Physical Sciences Division. Steven also acts as a liaison to the IT staff working in PSD’s Departments and Institutes, University IT Services, and other groups on campus.

Associate Director of Development


Erin works with the Director of Development, Dean, and fundraisers in the University’s central Alumni Relations and Development office to cultivate support for the Physical Sciences Division from alumni and friends of the Division.

Executive Assistant to the Dean and Manager of Academic Appointments


Sharon assists Dean Olinto with all functions of the Dean’s Office. She is the Division’s search coordinator, processing appointments for faculty and other academic appointees. She manages the dean’s calendar, travel, and correspondence, and advises members of the Division on numerous policies and procedures. Sharon received her MA in the Humanities from the University of Chicago in 2009.

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Director


Neli creates, leads and coordinates institutionalized Equity, Diversity and Inclusion programs for all PSD constituents. She builds strategy, provides guidance and develops resources to support Diversity and Inclusion practices for staff, students, postdocs and faculty.

Michael Foote

Deputy Dean


Michael Foote serves as liaison with undergraduate and master's programs in the Physical Sciences Division and selected other units of the University. He is a Professor in the Department of the Geophysical Sciences, where his research covers the geological history of animal life. He previously served as Master of the Physical Sciences Collegiate Division and as Chair of Geophysical Sciences.

Jessica oversees the academic appointment process, human resources for the division and works with the senior personnel in the division to assure operations run optimally.

Senior Associate Dean


With the help of senior personnel in the division, Mike oversees the divisional strategy,  budget, communications, IT desktop support, grants and contracts, core facilities, and lab safety.

Divisional Administrator


Susan serves as the HRIS analyst and divisional liaison for Workday; oversees the division's postdoctoral scholar and fellow appointment process; manages academic appointment processes in Workday; and assists in office management of the Dean's office.

Craig Hogan

Deputy Dean for Special Initiatives


Craig Hogan, Professor in the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics and the Enrico Fermi Institute, is the Deputy Dean for Initiatives in the Physical Sciences Division.  Craig oversees the strategic planning for hiring initiatives, diversity, equity, and inclusion for faculty, students and staff.

Assistant Director of Development


Amy works to raise support for the Physical Sciences Division. She oversees the stewardship of major gifts and coordinates meetings and communication for the PSD Council.

Stuart Kurtz

Master of the Physical Sciences Collegiate Division


Stuart Kurtz is Master of the Physical Sciences Collegiate Division, one of five divisions in the College. He serves as the representative for the Physical Sciences Division within the College with a particular responsibility for the physical and mathematical sciences components of the Core. Kurtz is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science and works on complexity and type theory.

Director, PSD Graphic Arts


Chris directs the PSD Graphic Arts department, which is dedicated to serving faculty, staff and students with their graphic design and print needs. The full-service print center is located in The Crerar Library. His team of talented and experienced designers can accommodate almost any project.

Karin LeClair

Dean of Students


Karin is the Dean of Students at the Physical Sciences Division at the University of Chicago where she is assisting departments and programs in the Division with student affairs issues. Her duties include all aspects of student administration in the Division ranging from but not limited to registration and financial aid, admission, recruitment and advising to crisis intervention and addressing academic integrity issues. She also provides support to faculty, staff and central administration on all matters relating to student welfare.

Natalie manages PSD's communications strategy, social media, event promotion, and website. She also generates news features to highlight the incredible work of PSD faculty and students.

Stephan Meyer

Deputy Dean


Stephan Meyer coordinates the planning of research resources, core infrastructure, new facilities and new research space in the Division. He is the liaison to major capital projects in the division and oversees Research Laboratory Safety. He is a Professor in Astronomy and Astrophysics and in Physics and is a member of KICP and The Enrico Fermi Institute.

Laboratory Safety Specialist


Working closely with the Dean of PSD and the Director of IME, along with the Office of Research Safety, Kim has responsibility for managing and providing technical guidance, training, and risk analysis of the PSD and IME laboratory safety program to ensure a safe environment in which to facilitate research and the pursuit of academic excellence.

Jim Passolano

Director of Design and Construction and Divisional Safety Coordinator


Jim coordinates the design, renovation, and construction of research facilities in the Division. Specific tasks include quality assurance, budget development, scheduling, requests for proposals (RFPs) assistance, and value engineering in the design and construction phase. Jim is also the liaison between the Division’s laboratories and Environmental Health and Safety on all laboratory safety-related issues.

Associate Dean of Students


Shirley serves as a resource to student affairs staff in the Division to resolve issues related to registration, the quarterly degree conferral (convocation) process, and student financial aid, including stipend and tuition assessment and payment. She also manages student reimbursements for the PSD Social Committee.

Lab Safety Administrator

As Lab Safety Administrator, Ginger presents and updates the Combined Access Training Tracking System (CATTS). She works with principal investigators to ensure CATTS correctly reflects the unique set of courses for each lab. She also trains lab managers to use Assistant, the Chemical Inventory Control System.

Financial Director, Local Business Center


Hank directs the Local Business Center (LBC), which provides financial management of grants and contracts. The LBC is also the primary point of contact for a variety of financial and payroll transactions for departments and institutes in the Division.

Jennifer Woods

Director of Program Development & Special Projects


Jennifer works with faculty to prepare grant proposals for their research and educational initiatives. She identifies and disseminates funding opportunities, provides writing and editing services, coordinates the development of complex proposals, and facilitates interactions with University research administration.
