History & Purpose
In the spring of 2006, Dean Fefferman initiated the PSD Mentoring Committee intended for junior faculty in the Division. The Committee’s purpose is to promote a greater sense of community for the newest members of the University. Not only will it facilitate networking across departments within the Division but it will sponsor information exchange about the University with an emphasis on issues related to career development.
Composed of senior faculty members from every department within the Division, the Committee’s purposes are to:
- provide informal consultation to any junior faculty member seeking advice.
- organize Division-wide panel discussions on topics dealing with professional development (e.g., grant-writing, establishing research groups, engaging in interdisciplinary research).
- organize semi-annual social events so that junior faculty have opportunities to meet their peers from other departments.
- facilitate the improvement of department-level programming by raising the awareness about formal and informal mentoring systems existing within the Division and at other universities.
